Potential space for art and dance

I'm excited to be meeting up with my friend Heather Flores to check out her new studio space on E. Burnside in Portland, OR. She is gonna be doing monthly art shows and openings as well as Swing dance and Flamenco instruction. Really excited to see the art space. I'll let you all know about the space this week.

Portland Lindy Exchange 2008-2011

Almost exactly three years ago I had taken my first swing dance class in Portland, Or with Larry Peacock and Mindy Hazeltine. I think that we had covered basic six count foot work and maybe a tuck turn. I was so desperate to learn more after being introduced to the Hellzapoppin dance clip. It had taken over my brain and I had only taken a couple drop-in lessons. At this time only a couple weeks into dancing the Portland Lindy Exchange was taking place. I borrowed a slick outfit from a close friend that included a white dress shirt, white sweater, white slacks and white dress loafers. I think that’s probably the slickest I have ever dressed to this day. I jumped in my 1976 rust orange GMC and drove downtown. I parked that orange beast of a truck and walked over to the Crystal Ballroom. I paid my $20 bucks and entered the beautiful ballroom filled with dancers. I have to admit I was filled with envy towards all those people smiling and moving their bodies around the floor. I immediately walked to the beer garden in fear that someone would ask me to dance. As I stood in the corner I saw a circle of clapping people form at the front of the stage. I walked over to see the last minute or so of a jam circle. This made my envy un-bearable. At this point it didn’t take long for me to reach a depression for my lack of ability to dance. I left the Crystal Ballroom, headed home and sought out comfort with a pint of Ben and Jerry’s ( yes, I finished the entire pint with no effort). Fast forward three years. Here I am still at it and technically attending my third Portland Exchange. This time I will happily be attending and dancing. So if you are around the Portland area I hope that you will make your way to the 2011 exchange. There will be 7 bands throughout the four days of dancing including Meschiya Lake and the Little Big Horns, Casey McGill and more. If you’re reading this get your ass to Portland and let’s trip the light fantastic.

Other then that just plugging away at the http://worldofrenaissance.wordpress.com. Trying to finish a painting and maybe get some pieces hung up somewhere. It's been a while since I've participated in a show. I think I should start directing some energy in that direction.

I've been in a little bit of a slump with making art but have picked up other projects to fill my life. I recently started a blog titled Reniassance Men and Women and I'm really excited about the direction that this is going. I will have interviews with artists, dancers, musicians and entrepreneurs.
